TMFSS — Machinery Fault Signature Simulator

The TMFSS is a portable benchtop machine engineered to reproduce real-world rotating-machinery faults — misalignment, unbalance, bearing defects, looseness, gearbox faults, electrical-motor faults, pump cavitation — under controlled, repeatable conditions.

It is the rig you put in front of an analyst-in-training. It is the rig you use to validate a diagnostic algorithm before taking it on-site. It is the rig research groups use to generate labelled fault data for ML.

Three sizes

TMFSS Macro — full research-grade benchtop simulator. 30+ faults in the base kit. Add-on kits extend the fault library further. Used in defence/aerospace R&D, motor and bearing manufacturer QA labs, and university research groups.

TMFSS Mini — simplified, affordable benchtop. Simulates 7+ machinery faults. Limited add-on kit list. Built for entry-level training and education-focused deployment.

TMFSS Micro — classroom format. Smallest footprint for a teaching lab.

14 fault types simulated (Macro)

The full TMFSS Macro fault library covers:

  1. Misalignment (angular & parallel)
  2. Unbalance in rotating machinery
  3. Bearing faults (outer race, inner race, cage, rolling element)
  4. Foundation looseness
  5. Coupling studies (COS)
  6. Cocked bearings
  7. Eccentric & cocked rotors
  8. Belt drive faults
  9. Cracked shafts
  10. Reciprocating mechanisms
  11. Damping (types & mechanisms)
  12. Sleeve bearings
  13. Gearbox faults
  14. Pump cavitation

Add-on kits extend the fault library with additional configurations — bent shaft, finned rotor, accelerated bearing wear, lockable bearing, and mechanical rub. Each fault type comes with a technical note explaining the physics and the expected spectrum signature.

Who buys it

  • Motor and bearing manufacturers — QA labs assessing product performance and durability.
  • Defence and aerospace R&D — algorithm development, fault-data generation, technician training.
  • University and TCAT-aligned training programmes — hands-on labs for vibration analysis courses.
  • Reliability engineering consultancies — analyst training, demo rigs for client visits.
  • OEMs and integrators — testing new sensors, edge devices, and predictive-maintenance software before field deployment.
  • ML / data-science teams — generating labelled, ground-truth fault datasets for training classification models.

Pairs naturally with

  • PhonoVibe DAQ (any model in the series) for capture
  • TVIB TSAP 201 for analysis and reporting
  • TCAT Cat I / Cat II training when the simulator is part of a learning programme

Make in India

TMFSS is designed, manufactured, and calibrated at our Thiruvananthapuram facility. Parts are sourced and assembled domestically. Spares and service from a local team — no long lead times waiting on imports.

Common questions

What is the difference between TMFSS Macro, Mini and Micro?
Size and fault library. Macro is the full-industry and research rig, with 30+ fault types in the base kit and add-on kits beyond that. Mini is the academic and entry-level rig with 7+ faults in its base kit. Micro is built for classroom demonstration. TUVS, the Universal Vibration Simulator, is a separate rig again.
Can it reproduce the same fault signature twice?
That is the point of it. The rig sits on a solid rigid base and speed is set through a VFD with WiFi software, so a fault seeded today gives a comparable signature in a session months later. A built-in tachometer with analog output supplies the phase reference for order and phase work.
Which faults are included in the base kit?
TMFSS Macro's base kit covers 30+ machinery fault types — unbalance, misalignment, looseness, bearing and gear defects among them — and add-on kits extend the library further. TMFSS Mini's base kit covers 7+.
Do I need a separate analyser and software?
The simulator generates the faults; you measure them with a DAQ and analysis software. A PhonoVibe with TVIB is the matched TIERA chain, and the rig works equally with a third-party analyser you already own.
What warranty and support does it come with?
One year warranty, with an AMC available afterwards. It is designed, manufactured and supported from Thiruvananthapuram, so service does not involve an overseas RMA.
