The Shaft Crack Simulation Addon for the TMFSS Macro simulates the occurrence and impact of cracks in the shafts of industrial machinery. It extends the TMFSS Macro simulator with a detailed environment for studying how a shaft crack progresses and what it does — a significant concern for the reliability and safety of rotating equipment. Shaft cracks arise from fatigue, overloading, improper design or manufacturing defects. They compromise the structural integrity of the shaft, and lead in turn to failure, disrupted operation and safety hazards. The addon lets users watch a crack start and grow under different conditions, identify the factors that drive it, and judge how well a given inspection or maintenance regime reduces the risk. That makes it a predictive-maintenance tool: the point is to catch a shaft crack before it becomes a catastrophic failure.
